Holy Name Men's Club

Holy Name Men’s Club

The St. Christina Holy Name Men's Club is open to all men over the age of 18 who meet as a group at least once a month to support the parish through pray, play, and conducting various fundraisers to support our parish and school.

Among those who receive our support are the men’s softball and basketball league; homebound meal program; St. Vincent de Paul Society; eighth grade graduation party; and annual Christmas gift to our teachers.

Much of the funding is raised through the annual NFC-AFC Playoff Party held in the school hall.

We meet as a group once a month, generally on a Friday, except during Lent, to have a general discussion of upcoming events, discuss funding and enjoy the camaraderie of the group. Male parishioners interested in joining are invited to attend any of the events or call the Rectory at 773-779-7181 or send an email to saintchristinaholyname@gmail.com, with your name and phone number.

From the Holy Name Secretary:

The board of the St. Christina Holy Name Men's Club would like to thank its members and parishioners for their support this past year. The parish, school and organizations and area needy were recipients of donations through Holy Name efforts. Contributions by Holy Name increased substantially from previous years. A majority of the funding comes from the annual upcoming AFC/NFC playoff party.

Holy Name contributed $5,000 during Easter and another $5,000 at Christmas to the parish, which has been a longtime tradition. Another longtime tradition was continued with a $1000 donation for the Thanksgiving Homebound Meals program

The club also contributed $1,000 to the school Boosterthon and $500 to the school 5K event. Parish teachers were honored for their hard work with a $1,000 gift at Christmas, also a tradition. Earlier in the year the teachers were honored with a lunch.

Holy Name contributed $325 to the Athletic Association banner. The Savvy Seniors again received $400 for their Christmas luncheon.

Continuing a longtime tradition, Park Lawn School received a donation of $500 for their work with handicapped youth. Holy Name for the first time contributed $500 to an event held at Gaelic Park, which also aided area handicapped youth. Friends of Fitz received $500 for their fine work for area needy families. Team Kevin revived a contribution of $500. The South Side Irish parade also received a gift of $1,000. A parish family that recently lost a family member received $1,000.

The fourth annual coat drive, which aids area needy, proved to be the most successful ever, thanks to the generosity of parishioners. The drive was run in conjunction with the parish Cub Scouts and the 22nd Police District. The annual canned goods drive was also a huge success, thanks to parishioners. The Wednesday Night Softball League contributed to the good works of Sister Ann, which was capped off with the December softball tourney and canned food drive. The annual blood drive held by Holy Name, for the third consecutive year, had an increase in donors. Earlier in the year, Sister Anne was presented with $500 to purchase gift cards for the needy.

Holy Name also contributed to parishioners' spiritual needs which included two religious bus trips. The first was an April trip to the Shrine of Christ's Passion in St. John, Indiana. Also sponsored, in conjunction with Ladies Sodality, was a June trip to Sox Park for the Mass celebrating the installation of Pope Leo XIV. That bus trip was also opened to the faithful from neighboring parishes. Under the guidance of Mike Giancarlo, president, a new tradition continued during Mother's Day weekend, with the distribution of 550 religious mementos to all moms. Blessed articles will again be dispensed in 2026. The vigil before the Holy Eucharist was again held after Holy Thursday Mass.

INVITATION TO JOIN THE HOLY NAME MEN'S CLUB

The St. Christina Holy Name Men’s Club is looking for a few good men to join our organization. We currently are seeking the fathers of our school children to join up with us and continue our mission to bring our parish men together for camaraderie, spirituality, and fun. We have monthly Friday night meetings from September to May and a July barbeque. A nominal yearly dues fee includes food and refreshments at every meeting.

Our group generously donates to our church and school, including a yearly Christmas contribution to our teachers and a donation for the eighth-grade graduation party. We also have donated food and cash to help Sister Ann Vincent’s pastoral care ministry. We have our annual NFC/AFC party fundraiser in January to help us offset our costs. We are hoping that you will decide to join along with some of your other parish friends. They do not have to be a school father. All men of the parish 18 years and older may join. Some of our events include:

  • The Holy Name softball and basketball leagues
  • Baseball, football, and hockey bus trips
  • Guest speakers at our meetings
  • Poker after meetings
  • Steak night… and much more to come

Come out and join us and get more involved with your parish family. It will be rewarding for the new longtime friendships you will make and the memories you will enjoy for years to come. For information, contact any board member listed below. If you would like to join now, just write down your name, address, phone number, and email address, put it in an envelope addressed to the Holy Name Men’s Club, and drop it in the Sunday collection or drop it off at the rectory. We will get back to you and hope to see you soon!
